    Movies

I have been watching a lot of movies lately, and I was just wondering what you all would suggest seeing.

    Re: Movies

Hey ozy, missed your name around here lately -- good to see ya!

I don't get out to movies much, but did go see "The Golden Compass" with my kids. It was definately worth it.

As for rentals (I'm a little behind the times, because I don't do that much either) the best I've seen recently was "V for Vendeta". And I was just considering re-watching "From Hell" (with Jonny Depp from a few years ago) cause I really liked that when I first saw it. Have thought about doing the "Kill Bill"s and "Pulp Fiction" again with my son, too.

And as far as sappy girly movies go, my daughter and I just watched "Pride and Prejudice" again (for about the 10th time). Always worth the time if you like that sort of thing -- it's my favorite 'happily-ever-after'. Oh yeah, and we put in "Howl's Moving Castle" (Animee, but a really good one; the book is even better), "The Count of Monte Cristo", and "Kate and Leopolde" on a regular basis as well.

Can't think of any others off the top of my head. Oh, wait. I just remembered "Ten Things to do in Denver When You're Dead". Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen that, but I remember I really liked it. Can't even remember who's in it (one of the Baldwins, maybe?) or who directed it.

Hmm ... this post is much longer than I thought it was going to be. Enjoy!

I show up in spurts.  How have you been?

I love Pride and Prejudice, I have no idea how many time I have seen that movie (or the miniseries) but I have read the book at least 3 times.

I could actually really go for a sappy girly movie, especially since I just watched Fight Club for the billionth time (I still don't get sick of that movie)

    Re: Movies

Been good, thanks for asking.  I saw your name on the AiC board with only a few posts -- that surprised me. I figured you had been there for a while, too. That one is sooo much more active than this, but I still love coming here!

I've never seen the P&P miniseries -- it's good then, eh?  I was considering buying it the last time I was as Costco. (fell in love with the story when 'forced' to read it in high school -- re-read it many times)

Fight Club!  I love that one too. Ok, now I have to watch it again. My favorite line is when Brad Pitt talks about selling "their own fat asses back to them"!  That puts me in mind of another Ed Nornton one I liked:  American History X, (I think -- might be wrong about the title).

    Re: Movies

I actually forgot that bored existed, I had joined along time ago, but had never posted anything.

I think with the p&p miniseries that you really have to love the story to truly appreciate it.  maybe not.  maybe it is as good as I think.

. I LOVE American History X.  I actually have been loaning that movie out like crazy lately.

    Re: Movies

i own the bbc miniseries of 'pride and prejudice,' which i never get tired of watching. i've also read the book many times. for some reason it just never gets old. i feel the same way about 'the catcher in the rye'.

have you watched garden state? i watch it at least once a month. natalie portman is adorable, and any movie with a character named 'samantha' scores major points in my book.

    Re: Movies

That's two recommendations, now I'm too curious to let be. But Costco sold out -- dang, they're always better priced. Any ideas on where to get it? No, I haven't watched "garden state", but I like natalie portman in everything I've seen her in. I'll have to try it. (I'll put in another plug for "V is for Vendeta" here).

    Re: Movies

I really wanna go see The Dark Knight... I really think that Heath Ledger did a great job as the Joker from what i've seen..and also..the fact that Heath died(R.I.P) that will make people want to see the movie even more..because some people usually wait and say..oh ill just see it when it comes out..but now people are going to be like...oh that guy died lets go see his movie...of course that doesn't really apply to everyone..i'm gonna go see the movie because ive been of his and i think that this might be his best work..

    Re: Movies

I'm with both of you on that one... I cannot wait for that to come out... hopefully its like Batman begins, and is dark like Batman is supposed to be... not the TV show fluff that was out way back when.

On a side note of the comics genre though...

    Iron Man was incredible!!!

Worth the $$$$ to see it... and can't wait for the Avengers follow up and/or S.H.I.E.L.D. follow up that is hinted at at the end of the credits

    Re: Movies

I'm going to mention old and new. True Romance, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Dog Soldiers, Underworld, Bram Stokers Dracula, Sin City and Shoot Em Up I'm sure you've seen most of them but those are off the top of my head.

    Re: Movies

    Loved True Romance!

For some reason I thought of The Life of David Gale a few days ago.  Saw that a long time ago, and liked it.  Now I want to see it again.

Watched Thank You For Smoking 2 days ago.  Funny, but doesn't really stand out in a crowd.
