Re: ALL THINGS RE: ALICE IN CHAINS
I went to the Sayreville show last night and well, it was unbelievable.
The doors officially opened at 7, but they didn't begin letting people in until 8. My husband and I managed to get to the third row standing on Jerry's side, which I couldn't believe since we didn't get there till about 645p.
The opening band, Modern Day Zero, came on about 830p and they were really good and got the crowd revved up. Then Jim "Half-Baked" Brewer from Sirius came out and totally made the crowd go nuts. He was just staying stuff like "Are you ready to rock?" and stuff like that. But the crowd went f'ing crazy. It was like like being in a crowd of rabid dogs waiting for a piece of fresh meat.
And finally at about 930p, AIC came out. Since I'm only 4'11" tall and in the 3rd row, I was nearly swallowed up by the press of people trying to get to Jerry. I spent the first few songs fighting for my life and then, when I almost died during, Dam That River, my husband and I decided it was best that we try to move to the side where there were steps. (We have a 4-year-old daughter after all and ophanages are not great places!) Luckily, some really nice guy got off the step and gave me his step. Thank GOD!!!! I was still on Jerry's side, but further back and could now see William, Mike and Sean too.
Last night, I was even more impressed with William's singing quality than I was at the Heart show. With the obvious exception of Layne, I think now that he is the best person to sing these songs. My husband, who's not a big AIC fan (??????) is now a convert because of last night's show. And Jerry??? Oh my god. He is truly the Riff Lord. Watching him play makes me want to pick up a guitar. Awe-inspiring.
I honestly cannot remember the set list, but after looking at the NH show, it is very similiar. They ended with Would?. Nutshell was unreal. And Love Hate Love.....well I never ever thought I'd hear that live.
The only problem I have now is that I want more live AIC.

I hear ya on trying to be in front (or close), I gave that up a few years ago.....sounds like you had a better view from the step anyway.....
Love, Hate, Love always gives me the chills when I hear it.......
Hehehehe, glad to hear that your husband got the AIC Love now too  .....live shows, done right, can do that to people

Re: ALL THINGS RE: ALICE IN CHAINS
I really suck at reviews, so I'd rather do it here because I feel more like home here than at the AiC boards....
A lot of things happened the night before, basically I didnt sleep all night cuz my dog was sick again :( and went to sleep at 7 am... I woke up at 12 pm and started getting ready for the big day :) Nicole got to John's apartment around 4 pm and we all headed to the train station in Brooklyn to pick up Kristen (SirenDemented). We hopped back in the car and took off. Destination: Sayreville. The 'trip' to the venue was quite long because of the traffic, but we were all excited and talking a lot (right, girls? LOL) At some point I thought how nice it would be if I could actually listen to some Alice songs before while we were in the car, but my lovely boyfriend was listening to the sports station (GO YANKEES! ---> John's comment, of course) ... oh well, I knew I would be in for a treat with Alice in a couple of hours anyways, so the thought quickly vanished from my mind....
We got "starparking", so John, Kristen and I were able to stand in a smaller line and actually go in the club before the people who were waiting for the doors to open in the 'regular' line. I dont know if it was me, but Kristen kept saying that it was not that hot, but I felt like I was gonna melt... maybe too much emotion?
They finally let us in around 7:40-ish (I guess...), the venue is really small, but definitely bigger than the Roxy in LA where I saw AiC play last may. The only thing was that this time I did the right thing: STAYED AWAY FROM JERRY'S SIDE!  Believe me I've never been so happy with a decision before. We were on the rail on the left hand side of the stage. The idea was to get out of there in case it got really bad with the pushing, but it never happened, THANK GOD!! :D
Around 8:30 the opening band came up on stage. They did a nice a job, actually, but didnt blow me away... For some reason I always feel weird seeing people who are younger than me playing... I know I'm a weirdo, so dont pay attention to me
After Modern Day Zero "from St. Louis" left, the stage filled up with techs who started organizing things around, testing equipment, and tuning the instruments. That's when I saw him: The Baldy himself holding his video camera right in front of me!! :D :P Nah I couldnt miss posting this here  and of course I thought of Nature at that moment and how would be nice if she was there to to try to talk to him  Too bad my shyness didn't let me shout his name... I would've loved to have a picture with him. I tried my best to find him after the show, but didnt see him. :(
While waiting for the AiC show to start, John, Erica (who joined us before the opening band, yay! ), Kristen and I were trying to get to know each other a little bit better. For those who were wondering where Nicole was, well, she had some duty to do, so I'll let her tell you guys her own story
At some point, someone from the crew started taping the setlist to the floor and we were all trying to take a peek on it until John said that we were ruining the surprise...
AiC came on stage at around 9:45, I really dont remember the setlist, I'm sorry. I know they played 16 songs because the lady who was standing next to me (very nice lady, btw  ) was able to count how many songs off of the setlist. But the show was fucking AMAZING!! :D :D Yeah I was more alert this time.... :P The crowd was on top of every song, being as loud as possible and really rocking the place! :D We were right in front of Mike Inez who is the cutest person in the world ever!! Mike, your smile is EVERYTHING!!! He's just unbelievable! (at this point I have to confess I've always been a fan of bass players...) He was interacting with the crowd all the time... and would even tease us showing us his cup of beer, which made me VERY jealous! Damn it! At some point I think Mike's bass shorted out, but it didnt seem to make him mad or anything... Jerry looked at him after the song and asked if everything was OK, to which Mike noded his head positively.
Sean was great too, he really has some strong arms  It's amazing how he looks like he's gonna destroy the fucking drums set 8) and in total trance while performing 8) 8) :D One of the highest moments of the show for me was when they played No Excuses, which is one of my favorite songs, and honestly I have to give Sean the kudos for making it sound so perfect! 8) :D :D
Jerry was perfect as always, but everytime I looked at him the only thought in my mind was "Thank God I'm not in front of him" as I could see the people in the front being crushed by the ones behind them who were trying to reach Jerry! Call me old, but I was really happy for that!  There were a couple of times when Jerry came over where I was standing and I couldnt help it but say to myself "no, Jerry, please, stay right there", sorry, man, I love to hear you playing, but you are too popular and there's just too much overdrooling wherever you are  :P  Aside from that, Jerry IS a great musician and his guitar riffs are definitely one of the reasons I became a fan of this band! 8) :D I know you must be tired of hearing this, but GREAT JOB, man! :D
There were some crowd surfing going on and everytime someone got caught, the security guys would make sure to throw them out of the crowd.
Finally William.... he is AWESOME!! He sounded much better than at the Roxy show in LA back in may. You can see that he's more confident now. His interaction with the crowd is perfect: not too much, not too little. He grabbed my hand twice during the show.... I'm not washing my hand anymore.... hahaha.... just kidding guys :P I needed my girly fan moment too   but, yeah, William is the right guy, I dont know, I just like him and I'm very, very happy for him and for the rest of the boys too. I saw AiC live in 93 with Layne... I remember Layne singing Love Hate Love.... For some reason that song stuck in my mind at the time and hearing William sing it again last night brought some tears to my eyes for a moment... same thing during Man in The Box (hello, RAW!! ) and Would? Again, congrats William!! :D :D and thanks for making it possible to see AiC live again!! I wish you the best! 8) 8)
This is for nature  not the best shot of me or William either, but hey, at least it proves we were together for a couple of seconds!
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c12/Chris--Paladino/c956a89b.jpg
At the end of the show Mike gave out some picks and handed Kristen 2 drumsticks making sure that SHE got them! :D John happened to get a pick from Mike too, and now it's MINE  and I got a pick from Jerry himself :D :D Besides the picks I got a pass for the aftershow party which I never attended because I wouldnt go by myself and leave my friends and my bf behind. Instead, we got to meet William briefly who came back to talk to everyone. He seemed to be a little overwhelmed with all the attention, but was definitely enjoying it  I couldnt really talk to him, but managed to get a pic and tell him he was awesome, to which he replied by thanking me while looking me in the eye! :)
Oh yeah, at this point, Nicole was back with us! We, then, decided to go outside and see if we could see the other boys. I confess I dont feel very comfortable standing for "hours" and waiting to get rock stars' autographs and pics... just not my thing, but since I really didnt get anything from them when I first met them, 13 years ago, I decided I wanted to at least see them in person again. It turned out that only Sean came out. I got an autograph and a pic with him, but I'm not gonna post because I just look too damn ugly in that pic  but as soon as I crop myself out of it, I'll let you guys see the greatest drummer!!
I really had a blast! The only frustration was not being able to get a pic WITH Baldy   We were all very excited when we left the venue... I'd like to say that I loved to meet Nicole, Kristen and Erica!! You are GREAT, girls!! :D
I got home at 3 am.... and was starving.... everything was great, except the fact that I want to see them again and again and again....

Re: ALL THINGS RE: ALICE IN CHAINS
awesome reviews mefra & lost 8) here is my little review from AiC.com, looks like i was only a few rows behind you lost........
definately an awesome show!!! the guys sounded great & seemed to be in a great mood..........it's amazing how much better & more comfortable William sounded since the boston & nyc shows (& i thought he sounded pretty good then)..........it was a great crowd too........much nicer crowd than at the bowery, no pushing & shoving where we were but it was extremely hot in there.........i got there late due to a change in plans & lots of traffic so i couldn't get to the rail like i usually do but we ended up about 6-7 rows in front of Mike Inez which wasn't bad considering it was almost 9:30 when we got there........i'm terrible w/setlists & i'm sure someone else will post that..........Nutshell was a definate highlight for me & of course No Excuses & Would which are 2 of my many favorites.........my only complaint is i wish they'd play longer, i can never get enough AiC

I know cat... too bad I had no idea what you looked like, otherwise I would've said 'hi'.....
Ok, whatever, I know it's not the best picture of me, but I'm sure Sean is all that matters here... so ladies & gents here's me and Mr. Kinney. I look sooo tiny next to him and William   The reason why I have my hand up is because I was showing him which way to look... haha

Also, I think Kristen mentioned somewhere that Sean's drum tech is hot... he does look much better in person, wow   :P

Ya know, LOST, I told William about you & I wonder if he connected what I was talking about when he actually met you ~ did you tell him your first name & screen name????? I said you'd be there & that he HAS to meet you, and if he does, you're gonna probably be to shy to talk (LOL).....looks like it turned out way cool, after all....
You are an itty bitty thing  Or else Sean is 7 feet tall  8)
I'm glad you got a chance to see Sean again....I know better than to ask if he remembered you from the first time you two met   ~ that was probably a million people ago for him to remember.......
LMAO at the never washing your hand part *hehehehe*.....
It's not so much as William is any more confident now than before, it usually takes him a couple of weeks to settle in to the touring routine.....to get the right vibe going.....it's the same with CWTF, those first couple of weeks are rough.......really the biggest difference between now & the Heart show (which was a poor example of this, anyway) is he has actually heard more good words/feedback & aside from the technical difficulties the shows have gone very smoothly ~ and maybe he has had some vindication that this is a good idea/thing to do
THANK YOU for the review & all the YUMMY pix, too
Thanks EVERYONE :D
