    rack

Hey guys...I need help.  I have  JCM Dual Super Lead, and I play through a 1960s cab.  I want to start improving my tone with rack effects or something.  I have looked into maximizers also.  I just really don't know where to start or what I should get...any suggestions or help would be great!

    Re: rack

Alright, in your case I would go with

    1) TC Electronic G-Major multi effects unit with a G-Minor midi control pedal.  It is pretty cheap and has all the effects you will ever need, outside of wah, distortion, and talkbox

    2) BBE Sonic Maximizer, they are cheap, and they make your tone sharper and less cloudy, definitely a good buy.

    3) Furman PQ3 or PQ4, just a simple rackmount parametric EQ, great for scooping mids or getting those Dimebag-like tones

I think that is about all you would really need, maybe get a cheap Furman power conditioner, but that is it.  It would definitely add to your tone spectrum.

Thnks!  I will definitely look into these things.  Also, I want ot maybe replace my pickups.  What do you suggest as far as pickups.  I have duncans and they are pretty good, but I want something badass!

    Re: rack

Alright, well for pickups I have a few suggestions if you want something hotter:

If you want a ton of sensitivity and pickups great for distortion, I would go with an EMG 81/85 combo, or the Seymour Duncan Livewire combo.  I personally dislike active pickups, but definitely make sure to check them out.

If you want really good passive pickups I would go to some DiMarzio's.  If you want some sensitive pickups capable of a good amount of gain and sustain, I would go with a Tone Zone/ Airnorton setup.  If you want a Steve Vai  like tone go with the Evolution pickups, and if you want distortion plain and simple, go to a X2N (they add a slight hum to your signal).

    Re: rack

also you would want to have a power condition, just in case of a spike your gear could fry

not exactly a rack, but looks easier to tweak. and you won't need a midi footswitch.

this is the best pickup i've played for Jerry's tone (and for almost everything else lol)

much superior than duncan, dimarzio, emg, gibson, lawrence (i tried a lot of pickups before surrendering to BKP's)
