    Re: cantrell rig-dam that river

The original "Them Bones" was done with a Bogner modified 100 watt Marshall JCM 800 head, or so I've been told, and one of Jerry's Rampages with the JB.  It wasn't until later that he started using the Fish preamp (I believe the serial number was in the late 30's of 200 made, of course Bogner then went on to use symbols in serials).  If you have a nice heavy toned guitar and drop the JB into it's bridge you are going to be good to go.  Ampwise not everyone is going to be able to wait a few months to drop $2500 on a Bogner Fish preamp, so really any good hi-gain capable tube amp will get you close to the sound you want.

Oh, welcome to the board man.  You will probably want to check out the board at aliceinchains.com though because that actually still has a breath of life.

The Thunders are good, check out the soundclips here:  http://rocksolidamps.com/index.php?contain=playlist&mid=155  the Thunder ones are about 2/3's of the way down.  I've got my eye on one of the Midi Tube Preamps, those mother fuckers look as versatile as hell, I'll probably opt out for a Powerball though.  I've taken a liking to technical death metal and Engl is the brand of the genre.

    Re: cantrell rig-dam that river

try the distortion type; I'm putting that in my G&L Superhawk

CP, did you mean they are good for the Alice in Chains like genre? and Tool , seeing as that's the way I play

and I don't need soundclips, I've got mine at home already Cool

    Re: cantrell rig-dam that river

If you want to get some really good distortion I would probably go with DiMarzios or EMGs.  Duncan pickups are good, I have a set in my Rampage, but if you want searing gain then you are going to probably want pickups with more of an edge to them.  I like DiMarzio X2Ns, Evos, and D-Sonics, as well as the EMG 81's.  I personally have taken a liking toward DiMarzio pickups just recently because of the versatility and how they accenuate the picking attack.  If you go with Duncans you may want to try out the Custom, Custom Custom, or Full Shred.  Those pack a lot of versatility with a lot of punch.

    Re: cantrell rig-dam that river

I might check them out, but I'm most likely putting in a Jazz and a Distortion, I liked their sound clips

and it's possible I will make active pickups out of them
