Re: How much do you love/hate your job?

I love both of my jobs for different reasons, I written enough about my night audit job in my own thread but the bar is good too. I used to be the cook and help with the bar or bouncing from time to time but I said FUCK THAT, I hate being in a bar with people drinking and not being able to drink and fight, so I hung them up and became the custodian, I know, you're shocked but heres whats great about it.

I get a key to the bar.

As if that isn't enough it gives me time to myself, with no one to piss me off and its at $30 an hour. Which is a giant mark up from the wages as any of the other positions there. So between the two jobs I have from Monday to Friday at 11pm off work, I work about 27 hrs a week but get paid almost like I work 5 days... I'm supposed to take advantage of the extra time and go to school in hopes to get a higher education but I'm a lazy *** who only wants to drink, fight and fuck..

The water may not be very deep at this end but its a damn good swim regardless.

Dang, Rev -- you make more $/hr than I do. And that schedule... why would you go back to school? I can see how the motivation is not there. You live in Vancouver, BC right? I don't think I would get the same wage for a similar job here. I don't know that I would really be happy if I wasn't doing something that involves taking care of people, either. As much as I tend to complain -- I think the "mommy" instinct would win out.

Glad it makes you happy, though. Both jobs seem to suit you perfectly. Cool. Wish I could figure something like that out. Maybe I'll be less frustrated when the new job description gets underway...

Re: How much do you love/hate your job?

I've often wondered how much nicer work would be if I started flirting with the Dr who is cheating on his wife..... It is getting close to my 1 year review.

But now my favorite work friend is going to a different department, and not only am I going to miss her, but I am going to have to probably train her replacement.

but on the bright side, it looks like I may not been a receptionist there for much longer!  I already do other crap at least 2 days a week.

Re: How much do you love/hate your job?

LOL,  Pisces and Ozy!  I don't know if either would get me very far. It would take a pretty amazing Wonderbra to give me any cleavage worth looking at, and I'm too shy to pull off the flirting very gracefully.

On the bright side for me, though; my new job description has started. The new people are through their orientation, and I'm now officially the 'procedure girl'.  At least I think this will be a bright side. It seems like they're under the impression that I will put the rest of my life on hold to come in and help out (even on my scheduled days off). I just about lost it yesterday. When my boss comes back from vacation, there will be some new boundary lines drawn. They can schedule the tests on the days that I'm already working, or my boss can figure out some other way of covering them!

It's all very transitional right now, though. I'm sure it'll be much less stress in a few weeks. Diagnostic testing is my favorite part of the job.  Sounds like you might have something better in the works too, Ozy. Hope it turns out well for you. (and congrats on the raise, Pisces -- I'm still laughing!)

Re: How much do you love/hate your job?

I lost my job (sports copy editor at a newspaper) for most of last year, but I got recalled a couple of months ago, so I don't really hate it. Right now, I'm just happy to be employed full-time again. I like the technical aspects of my job, but man, the way the industry has changed is just eye-poppingly bad. Too much focus on entertainment and ego and not enough on actually telling people what's really going on in our world. *sigh*

Re: How much do you love/hate your job?

Congrats on the job! I hope it hasn't been too bad for you, just being part-time wherever. I went through the same thing (sort-of; we moved and it took a while for me to find a job when I was ready to start looking) 3 years ago. I remember the scared desperation. I took a per-diem position, and grabbed any hours no one else wanted -- all 3 shifts and no sort of regularity about it. Hard on the body and on the 'life'!

[I'm having a hard time posting. It doesn't give me the editing tools, I cant add lines or even extra spaces. I can't even preview. Wonder what's up. Anyway, I decided to make this a different post rather than one run-on paragraph...] That's funny what you say about how the industry has changed. I feel the same way about healthcare. I'm starting to think maybe it's society that's changed, and everything else is just a reaction. As a whole, we're pretty 'immediate-gratification', and don't want anything real that might make us feel bad or think to much -- just a bunch of 'fluff', please.... Give it to me, give it all to me right now, but don't include any of the responsibility or personal accountability that should go along with it....
