Re: ALL THINGS RE: ALICE IN CHAINS
Nice to see you too Christy.....
I won't rain on any parades, and just say that AIC kicked ass...because they did...the sound was great, they sounded great...I could go on and on..
Other than that, the venue sucked, and lots of the crowd sucked...I saw some shit that was unforgivable....people surfing over (and hurting) people in wheelchairs....just a weird vibe...I got nailed hard by a couple of surfer's, which was okay in and of itself, but I actually went down once that's how hard I got kicked in the head...and my friend almost had to kick ass and securtiy almost tossed her out for having my back....
Today, we went to a Jerry Garcia Birthday celebration at a McMenamin's Edgefield (very cool. 5 bands, good eats, drinks, beautiful venue) and I met a chick who had been to the show the night before and she actually drug one surfer chick down to the ground and kicked her in the head....
That's the kind of vibe I saw....it was shit. Aside from Alice the show was probably the worst I've seen. All the bands kicked ass, but the venue was fucked. Thank god for beer gardens....

Re: ALL THINGS RE: ALICE IN CHAINS
I agree with you on the venue and the vibe of the crowd, Sugar. It was very strange...I felt like I was in another world altogether rather than just 2 1/2 hours away from Seattle.

Re: ALL THINGS RE: ALICE IN CHAINS
Here is the review by Suzanne:
I'm back from an unforgettable concert in Oregon! I wanted to share part of my experience with you before some of the details got a little too fuzzy.
So here it is and hope you enjoy...
Alice in Chains/Seether Concert - Columbia Meadows St. Helens, Oregon July 29, 2006
On a warm summer Saturday in Seattle, 5 Layne Staley Fund team members loaded up a Ford Explorer and were getting ready to head on down the highway to see Alice in Chains in Oregon!
All of us were primed and ready - 4 girls and a guy - AIC loaded in the CD player and ready to rock! We made it about 3 blocks...what the hell?!? We had to stop at a Starbucks first, of course (I can just feel you shaking your head...only in Seattle!!)
The 2 and 1/2 hour drive was a blast - of course there was much banter back and forth between the gals and the poor lone male of the group - but don't you feel too sorry for him. He can dish it out plenty, let me tell ya!!! And did I mention there was a camera?? We made a few stops along the way - one of us girls had what she called "a bladder the size of a lima bean!!!"
Anticipating an evening of hard rocking and dancing, we arrived at the outdoor venue which I must say, left much to be desired. Honey Bucket heaven...ugh...
There was some really cool motorcycle 'X-Games style' stunt-flying going on in between bands towards the back of the field area of the venue. These fearless riders were flying through the air from ramps, doing handstands, table-tops, leg kicks and even had two riders following each other back-to-back, performing stunts almost simultaneously. That was so very cool to experience - it took your breath away!!
We enjoyed watching Seether, who was an excellent opening band choice for AIC. As many of you may have heard by now, Shaun Morgan, the lead singer, is going into rehab and this was their final performance before that took place. He left it all onstage. His singing was very heartfelt and emotional. I wish him well on his road to recovery.
We all made it backstage by the time Alice in Chains started and were able to watch their performance from a platform on the side of the stage!! It was awe-inspiring to see it from that vantage point. The crowd went absolutely crazy for them! There was so much body-surfing, dancing and jumping up and down that the grass field soon turned to dust and clouds of it rose above the frenzied crowd like smoke, billowing & swirling in the sky above them.
I was pleased to see so many young people in the crowd. It's heartening to know that their music translates so well to new generations...quite a testament to the timelessness of solid song-writing, musicianship and charisma.
Alice in Chains was tight and performed really well. Their set was a layered mix of 'We Die Young', 'It Ain't Like That' (one of my favs!), 'The Rooster', 'Dirt', 'Would', 'Rain When I Die', 'Down in a Hole', 'Angry Chair', 'Man in the Box' and 'Nutshell'. There were so many other songs they played - I was able to get a copy of the set list so just let me know if you want the entire list - but those were the ones that really stood out in my mind.
I literally got goose bumps during Jerry's guitar solo on 'Nutshell'. It was mesmerizing and so beautifully haunting. And it was a perfect song to play at an outdoor venue. They performed a nice long encore set, then said their good-byes. Afterwards, Jerry came back onstage to say thank you once more, buoyed by the fantastic reception they received from the crowd.
When the show was over, we talked to many people affiliated with the event and were able to meet the band for a time.
The entire evening was such an amazing experience and I really enjoyed the time I spent with my 4 road trip buddies!!
I was thinking of Layne so many times throughout the night, and wished he were there. He would have enjoyed seeing the crowd so passionately involved in the performance and would have fed off that energy as he used to do so well.
Take care,
Suzanne

Re: ALL THINGS RE: ALICE IN CHAINS
It's a god damned Communist plot to force all the AiC fans off this site and over to the new one. :P
I'm a Cantrell fan, first and foremost. So there.

Re: ALL THINGS RE: ALICE IN CHAINS
geez, I go away for a little while and come back to I don't know what...wtf?!!
A forewarning - I've no clue what the hell happened in the forums other then things being locked down.
Sugar, how ya been? I cringed reading your review, as I hate that when I want to go see a show, I then have to compete with a**holes full of angst, trying to ruin everyone's good time. Last I remember, people actually went to watch the show as well as rock out! Hopefully you will be able to see some more spacious ones in the future, lol. Then again, I'm envious, 'cause you got to see those CV shows in Hawaii, grrr. :P
So, AIC in NJ coming up. After reading your review and knowing the Starland, I'm afraid it will be the same situation. The Starland gets so packed at certain shows, that, even if you wanted to scratch your nose you couldn't. Funny thing about this show, is that Ozzfest will be playing the same night in Camden, about an hour away. Wonder if they will cross paths overnight? Starland also sucks, because even if you want to hang by the buses, they have put a gated fence all around the area for those of you that haven't been before. No dice. Wonder if Bethlehem would be better at this point, though I've never been to that gig.
Oh well, if anyone can give me a heads up on why people are being ushered to a new forum, I'd be curious to know. So, am I to assume that at some point, this board will be totally non-active? Inquiring minds want to know!
MKT~
